I’m very impressed how well people take care of their bodies here in Spain. They’re aware about how important physical activity is. We have to compensate for the passive hours we spend in front of the computer. Because then the body will be so grateful and start to generate energy; with issues like back pain, digestion troubles, low self confidence or low sexual appetite gone in a few weeks or months.
What happens when the muscles are regularly stimulated? The body burns fat so easily; you don’t have to be overly careful about the food you eat. And when some of the muscle groups start to become active, your posture also starts to change. The body posture you have during the day also mirrors the same posture, or approach, that you have to life. That means with more physical movement and the resulting improved posture, you show a different attitude in life to the people you meet. We can very quickly sense by their bodies whether a person is sick or feels fit and strong.
The vibe you send out is like a magnet for the people with that same vibe. So choose carefully what kind of energy you project to the world. What kind of people do you want attract?
After some time practicing acro yoga I noticed muscles I didn’t even know I had. And I’m more and more curious about what my body will allow me to do. Stretching is also important. In Chinese tradition it’s believed that equal time should be dedicated to strengthening and stretching.
For me there are a few ways how to find the balance between stretching and strengthening. When I do yoga I don’t have to think about stretching because yoga builds strength and stretches the body at the same time. If I do another kind of sport I always find around 20 minutes at the end for a good stretch and five minutes for the final relaxation. Why is it important? Simply try it! It is like the dessert after the main course. And the second benefit is the next day you don’t feel muscle pain.
I love to look at body builders (I mean the normal sized ones…), but that’s all that this sport offers you. Unfortunately this sport is just for effect, it is missing the strength and flexibility. I believe that real strength comes from the balance of flexibility, strength and mental health.
Lifting heavy dumbbells may inflate the muscles but it does not build strength and flexibility. I know many men long for big muscles and a six-pack, but as I talk to women it’s honestly not the priority for most of us.
When it comes to exercise, some love to go on a long walk, some like to run and work out, others prefer to skate, or play team sports or practice yoga. I like a bit of everything.
What is the active part of your day? Maybe you need a sport buddy to support you with your discipline; I found that’s very helpful.
If you already have your routine, keep going. And remember that regular practice builds inner strength at first and supports us to feel good in our “temple”.
The physical effect will be obvious later but your improved feeling happens immediately. It’s such a pleasant moment when people start to notice this improved mood and ask you what is different with you.
